INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
UNIT
HISTORY
NUNet committee was established in the university in 1996
with the sole responsibility of setting up a Local Area Network (LAN) and
Wide Area Network (WAN) for the university. NUNet stands for the Nigerian university network
- a brain child of the National University commission with the aim of
networking all Federal Universities in Nigeria.
PRESENT
On
resumption of office as the new
Vice-Chancellor of
the Federal University of Technology Yola,
Prof. A. Y. Ribadu
inaugurated
an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Committee
to meet the challenges and responsibilities born by the bright and
innovative vision of his administration on Information
technology, and thus enlarged the membership of former NUNet Committee
alongside its traditional roles, to look into all ICT activities of the
University.
FUTURE
In the near
future (subject to the availability of funds) we hope to have a complete
Local Area Network for the University through either a fiber-optic
backbone or speed LAN wireless connection.
It
is envisaged that in the next one year, the entire University campus
will have Internet and intranet
connectivity.
