Dean Office | Accommodation | Clubs/Societies | Scholarship | Catering | Sports | Warders STUDENT AFFAIRS DIVISIONThere is lots of support and information available to students across the university. The Student Centre is at the heart of the university community. It contains the Student Affairs Division who's job it is to provide practical help and guidance to all students – especially the questions and queries you might have on first joining the University. The Students’ Union is also a valuable source of information for new students which also resides in the Students Centre. New students can find out more about a range of services including: Accommodation and Living in Yola; Financial Support and Information; Disability Services; Careers; Chaplaincy; Counselling Service; Sports Services; or opportunities such as becoming a Student Ambassador or Volunteering. Both the Student Affairs Division and the Union are easily located – both are resident at the Students Centre. Many new students familiarise themselves with the Student Centre and the Student Affairs Division and its opening times in the first few days after joining the University. The SAD is open late during the first three weeks of the new academic year. All Freshers’ are treated to an Orientation of the University and city as well with visits to tourist and centres of importance including the city market and the royal palace of the traditional ruler of the town (Lamido of Adamawa).
(i) The
University is not under obligation to accommodate any student.
Hostel accommodation is a privilege and voluntary to all students. However, the University will provide hostel
accommodation to eligible and interested students who are ready to abide
by the University’s rules and regulations on room occupancy. Students who opt for accommodation in the hostels
will be required to share rooms with their colleagues. The number of students per room will be as the
University may decide. Facilities
are provided in the halls of residence for students to launder their
clothes. Students are required
to clean their rooms while University staff will clean the toilets and
the surroundings. (vi) Candles are not permitted in student rooms. In the event of blackouts only battery-powered flash light should be used. Stoves and cookers can only be used at the designated places. (vii) Students must make use of the toilet rolls (Not Newspapers) provided for them in the toilets to avoid blockage. (viii) Hostel accommodation is for one academic session only. (ix) Any careless or willful destruction or damage to University property will be investigated and where justified, the occupants of the room(s) will be punished. If negligence or damage is excessive, the room(s) occupants and any other culprit(s) will be expelled from the hall or residence. (x) The sale, purchase or consumption of liquor on the campus is not allowed and organizers of any student functions will be held responsible if any liquor is sold or consumed or in any way haled on the campus during student functions. (xi) Any students accommodating a visitor or a fellow student or any other person in his room overnight without a written permission of the Hall Warden shall pay a fine of N100.00 and liable to expulsion from the hall of residence. The disciplinary action is without prejudice to any further action that may be taken against such a student by the University Authority. (xii) Hanging or display of pornographic pictures is not allowed in student rooms. (xiii) Students are not allowed to keep pets of any kind on the University premises. Clubs and Societies
(i) The University permits the formation of
clubs and societies.
(v) Any club/society that wishes to involve people from outside the
University in its activities must notify and obtain a
written approval of the Registrar at least
two weeks before the commencement of such activity. click here to see a list of registered clubs & societies in FUTY Scholarship and Bursaries The Federal University of Technology, Yola as an institution does not deal with student scholarship and bursaries. The students union of various states normally liaise with their respective Scholarship Boards on matters related to scholarship and bursaries. However, the Students Affairs Office can assist students with scholarship problem by communicating with the various sponsors. Students Catering Service The Federal University of Technology, Yola does not engage in students catering services. The University however, assists students to hire caterers who operate within agreed terms of contract. Sports and Recreational Facilities (i) Sports and recreations are very important ingredients in developing a healthy individual. Sports develop the mind thereby creating the necessary condition for academic pursuit. In realization of the importance of sports in the development of the individual, the University provides sporting facilities and has in its employment a Coach. (ii) At present the following sporting associations are functional in the University viz: Football, Basketball, Handball, Volley ball, Racket games and athletics. Facilities for some indoor games are also available. (iii) Fresh students are expected to register with the Sport Association of their choice in the Sports Office. (iv) Sports Kits/equipment may be loaned out to registered players after filling the appropriate forms. (v) Students should take very good care of sporting kits/equipment their possession. Such kits/equipment should be returned neatly at the stipulated time. The Sports Office may surcharge students who return dirty kits for laundry work. (vi) Any student who damages, loses or mutilates any equipment/kit shall be required to pay the replacement cost of such equipment/kit. (vii) The Federal University of Technology, Yola is affiliated to the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), the International Federation of University Sports (FISU) and the West African University Games Association (WAUGA).
