The pre-NUGA games was held between the 17th and 24th of January 2009,
hosted by the Federal University of Technology, Yola (FUTY). Eight
universities in the North East competed during the games. they include
the University of Maiduguri, the Federal University of Agriculture
Makurdi, the Benue State University Makurdi, University of Jos, Gombe
State University, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, Adamawa
State University Mubi, and the host university, the Federal University
of Technology, Yola. FUTY participated in fourteen events and
qualified to represent the zone in 8 events. FUTY will be participating in the following games at the 22nd NUGA
Games UNN 2009:
(i) Football:
FUTY took the first position in the football event thereby qualifying to
represent the zone at the NUGA Games proper.
(ii) Table Tennis:
After one week of intense competition, FUTY emerged 3rd
position in this event and earned the right to represent the zone in
this event as well.
(iii) Athletics: FUTY
ranked 4th on the athletics event and will be representing the zone at
the NUGA Games UNN 2009.
(iv) Squash:
By placing 2nd on the table in this event, FUTY qualified to
represent the zone at the NUGA games UNN 2009.
(v) Chess:
FUTY topped the male category of this event at the Pre-NUGA
games and thereby qualified to represent the zone in this event at the
NUGA Games UNN 2009.
(vi) Judo: In Judo, FUTY
ranked 6th in the male category at the Pre-NUGA games and thus qualified
to represent the zone in this event at the NUGA Games UNN 2009.
(vii) Badminton: The 4th
position qualified FUTY to represent the zone in this event at the NUGA
Games proper.
(viii) Swimming: FUTY
came 2nd at the swimming event and qualified to represent the zone in
this event at the NUGA Games proper.
