The
purpose of introducing the Ph.D. degree research programme in the
Department of Urban and Regional Planning is particularly to train
graduates to acquire higher level of educational pursuits in the various
disciplines of planning. The dearth of Ph.D. holders in Urban and
Regional Planning has made it imperative to create enabling environment
for the training of interested prospective candidates.
SCOPE OF PROGRAMME
The
programme will cover formal lectures, Seminars, individual and group
assignments, field studies and field data collection and analysis. There
will be a project dissertation to be examined through a Seminar and Oral
Examination by a Panel of External and Internal Examiners.
Duration of the Programme
a. Full-time Ph.D.: minimum of fours semesters (24 months) and a
maximum of eight Semesters (48 months)
b. Part-time Ph.D.: minimum of six semesters (36 months) and a
maximum of ten Semesters (60 months).
MODE
OF STUDY
A
study for the Ph.D. programme is by comprehensive research, embodied in
a dissertation/thesis work. However, a candidate may be required to take
some courses as may be prescribed by the department or supervisor.

ENTRY
REQUIREMENTS
All
the prospective Ph.D. candidates must satisfy the following conditions
before being allowed to register:
a.
Satisfy the admission requirement of the PG School of the Federal
University of Technology, Yola.
b.
Possess a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning or its
equivalent in other relevant disciplines that will be determined by the
department, from a recognized University with TOPREC accredited courses.
c.
Possess a master’s degree with a minimum average score of not less than
a 3.5 GPA of course work.
