PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
PhD is the highest degree offered by Universities around the world. A
person with this degree is expected to be able to carry out independent
research of high standard in his area of specialization and at the same
time to impart advanced knowledge on the subject of his specialization
as well as on the broad area of his main subject. The main philosophy of
mounting the Ph.D programme in Physics at FUTY is to produce competent
Physicists who can not only accomplish the above objectives but also can
successfully provide expertise to many other branches of science and
technologies which are closely related to Physics. This will also fulfil
the objective of staff-development and minimize the cost involved. This
has the other added advantage in that the staff on ground, while being
trained in their PhD programme, are rendering services to this
University and thus are gaining service-experiences which would later be
very useful.

SCOPE OF PROGRAMME
The Ph.D programme in Physics will involve only research on new topics
of Physics
on which Ph.D degrees have not been offered by any College or University.
The Supervisory Committee may advise the candidate to take courses to
make up deficiencies in the area of his interest. The candidate will
be expected to conduct significant research on a specialized area of
Physics (in his area of interest) that has enough scope of application
for the scientific and technological development in the University,
society and the nation. Field trips and visits to some industries and
research Institutes may be conducted where necessary. The career opportunities
for the graduates are enumerated below.
Degree
to be Awarded
The Ph.D degree will be awarded in Physics
Award of Ph.D Degree
The Panel of examiners will recommend the award of the Ph.D degree if
the candidate has fulfilled the requirements in 7.0 above. The recommendation
would then be sent to the Senate for approval.
Course Durations (minimum time)
Full-time Ph.D 24 calendar months
Part-time Ph.D 36 calendar months
