PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
Parasites and their vectors continue to pose a serious challenge
to human health, social and economic development of tropical countries.
The impact of these diseases have increased with advancement in
agriculture and urbanization. Effective vector and parasite control
requires approaches which are broad-based, multidisciplinary and
community – relevant for such control efforts to be sustainable.
It also requires applied field techniques with skills for planning,
resource management, problem definition and implementation. The
broad objective of the MTech. Applied Entomology and Parasaite
Epidemiology degree is to prepare candidates for applied field
research and control of parasites and their vectors within community
populations.
The specific objectives of the programme are:
1. To train individuals in applied field research.
2. To train individuals in the techniques of tropical vector and
parasite control.
3. To provide a link between research and its application for
the advancement of local population.

SCOPE OF PROGRAMME
The programme will introduce candidates to the biology transmission
and characteristics aof parasites and their vectors. It will also
address the biological, social and economic aspects
of scientific inquiry into and control of parasites and their
vectors.
Duration
Full Time: 24 months
Part Time: 36 months

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Entry Requirements
i) All candidates for Parasite Epidemiology degree in addition
to satisfying the general University requirements must possess
a Master's degree in Entomology, Parasitology,
Epidemiology, Applied Biology or any other qualification acceptable
to Senate of the Federal University of Technology, Yola.
ii) Candidates for the Public Health Parasitology degree in addition
to satisfy the general University requirements must possess a
Master's degree in Parasitology, Microbiology, Community Health
Education or Public Health, or any other qualification acceptable
to Senate of the Federal University of Technology, Yola.
Candidates whose transcripts indicate certain deficiencies will
be required to audit some courses.
