PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
The Ph.D. Programme in Chemistry/Biology/Geography/Physics/Maths Education
is designed to train M.Ed/M.Tech.(Ed.) graduates to acquire further advanced
skills in one or more areas of Science Education thereby producing professionals
who are competent in identifying problems and conducting research in various
aspects of modern Science teaching.
SCOPE OF PROGRAMME
The Ph.D. Programme is by research (Thesis). The candidate will be expected
to cover a specific area of interest in Science education during the period
of study. This will however depend on his area of specialisation. Candidates
will be expected to carry out thorough research works in Chemistry/Biology/Geography
Education in an attempt to familiarise themselves with current problems
in the teaching of these subjects.
COURSE DURATION
Full time Ph.D. Candidates are required to spend a minimum of 24 months
Part-time Ph.D candidates are required to spend a minimum of 48 Months
MODE OF STUDY
Ph.D. Programme in any of the above options will involve a comprehensive
research work that will be presented as a thesis to a panel of examiners.
Candidates with deficiencies would be expected to
audit some courses in education to make up for such deficiencies.
SEMINAR AND THESIS
These are essential components of the Ph.D. programme. Candidates through
these media would be expected to demonstrate mastery of their areas of
Specialisation and show evidence of original contribution to knowledge.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All candidates for the Ph.D. must satisfy the Postgraduate school requirements
for admission. That not - withstanding candidates must have passed the
M.Ed/M.Tech (Ed) Chemistry/Biology/Geography/Mathematics/Physics from
Federal University of Technology, Yola OR other recognised Universities.
Candidates with an M.Ed. Science Education from any other recognised
Universities are qualified for admission.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to quality for the award of Ph.D degree canadidate must fulfill
the following requirements.
7.1 Pass written examinationas on course works where prescribed.
7.2 Defend Ph.D proposal before embarking on Ph.D research
7.3 Carry out publishable Ph.D research works.
7.4 Present Ph.D seminar on the works carried out.
7.5 Defend Ph.D Thesis before a panel of examiners as provided in PG guidelines.

Graduates of this programmes could work in the following institutions:
1. Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics as Lecturers
2. Research Institutes as Lecturers or research fellows.
3. Public Services.
