FUTY GETS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

Professor B.H. Usman has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University0 of Technology, Yola (FUTY). Until his appointment, Professor B.H. Usman was the past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and Acting Vice Chancellor, FUTY.

He has a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Soil Science) with a second class honours, upper division degree, from the University of Maiduguri. M.Sc. in Soil Chemistry, University of Reading, England, U.K. and Ph.D in Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management from the University of London, Wye College, England, U.K.

He now becomes the 6th Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola.     More>>

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD) DEGREE PROGRAMME IN AGRICULTURE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES

The aim of introducing the PhD degree Programme in Department of Technology education is particularly to train graduates to acquire higher level competencies with practical exposure in various specialties of the department. Such exposure will enable graduates meet the changing technological needs as part of their contribution to the contemporary society.

SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMME
The PhD Programme in the Department of Technology Education will be by research work. Candidates is expected to cover a specific area of interest in the Department during the Programme with scope wide enough and of relevance to an immediate environment. Field trips to some selected industrial and research institutes are to be conducted where necessary.

DURATION OF PROGRAMME
Full-time PhD Minimum of four semesters or 24 calendar months and maximum of 48 calendar months
Part-time PhD Minimum of six semester or 36 calendar months and maximum of 72 calendar months.

MODE OF STUDY
A study for the PhD Programme is by comprehensive research embodied in a thesis.
However, when a candidate is found to have weak background, the candidate would be required to remedy such deficiencies before commencement of the research.

RESEARCH SEMINAR AND THESIS
Requirement for research, seminars and thesis are essentially similar to those of M.Tech. candidates. In addition, a PhD thesis must show special evidence or original contribution to knowledge. It must not have been or form part of a thesis for another degree or diploma. A version of the PhD thesis which is suitable for publication in reputable scientific journals, must be submitted by a candidate before graduation.

ENTRY AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All candidates for the PhD degree Programme must, in addition to satisfying the postgraduate school requirements for admission, also satisfy on additional requirement must possess a master’s degree or its equivalent in agricultural technology education or relevant disciplines from a recognized university.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to quality for PhD degree, candidate is required to meet the following:
1.Undertake field and/or laboratory based original investigation research in the candidates chosen specialty under close supervision of supervisory committee;
2.Present a written thesis to a panel of examiners including external examiner, and written examination on course work, where prescribed; oral examination of thesis by a panel of internal and external examiner(s).
Candidates for the degree of PhD in the Department of Technology Education must satisfy the panel of examiner(s) before he/she can be qualified for the award of the degree of PhD.
