FUTY GETS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

Professor B.H. Usman has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University0 of Technology, Yola (FUTY). Until his appointment, Professor B.H. Usman was the past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and Acting Vice Chancellor, FUTY.

He has a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Soil Science) with a second class honours, upper division degree, from the University of Maiduguri. M.Sc. in Soil Chemistry, University of Reading, England, U.K. and Ph.D in Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management from the University of London, Wye College, England, U.K.

He now becomes the 6th Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola.     More>>

PH.D PROGRAMME IN AQUACULTURE AND FISHERIES MANAGEMENT

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the Ph.D programme is to train graduates with a more practical and functional knowledge and skills in specialized areas of Zoology so that they can take up careers especially in our Universities, Research Institutes, Industries and Management.

The internal Postgraduate programme will not only reduce cost of sending our Academic staff to other Institutions outside and within the country, but it will also enable these graduates to help in teaching in the Department and contribute to the development of the department while under training. The University will benefit by training the staff in areas relevant to its need and also attract research grants from industries and government in specific programmes.

SCOPE OF PROGRAMME
The Ph.D programme in specialized arears of Zoology will be by research. The candidates will be expected to cover a specialized area of Aquaculture or Fishery Management and applied entomology and parasitology that is of relevance to our immediate environment.

COURSE DURATION

Full-time Ph.D is 24 Calendar months.

Part-time Ph.D is 36 Calendar months.

ENTRY / GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To be admitted into the Ph.D programme of the department, in addition to satisfying the Postgraduate School requirements for admission, the candidate must satisfy the following requirements:

a) Posses an MSc or M.Tech. or its equivalent in Aquaculture and Fishery Management Applied Entomology and Parasitology of the Federal University of Technology, Yola or of other recognized Institution.

b) Candidates with MSc or M.Tech in other disciplines such as biology agriculture,or any other qualifications acceptable to the Senate of Federal University of
Technology, Yola may be considered for admission.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to qualify for a Ph.D degree, candidates are required to satisfy the following:

a) Undertake field/laboratory based original investigative research in the candidates chosen specialty under the supervision of a Supervisory Committee.

b) Pass a written examination on all prescribed course work were necessary.
c) Present Seminars satisfactorily where prescribed.

d) Present and pass a written thesis and an oral examinations under a panel of internal and external examiners.

Candidates whose transcripts have indicated deficiences, some courses will be required to audit them.
