M.TECH. IN URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING

Philosophy | Courses | Requirements | Facilities | Specialization | Prospects | Contact

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES

Nigeria is in great need of town planners to help in developing a sustainable urban environment. At the moment, professionals in this area are being produced in only a few Universities in the country. This shortage should be breached if chaos is to be mitigated both in the rural and urban space. The Department of Urban and Regional Planning can fill this gap, by producing high quality, competent planners to meet the existing manpower needs in the country.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

Planning is an interdisciplinary activity. As a profession, it represents a wide spectrum of specialization ranging from pure design to pure social analysis. The programme is designed with the objective of producing graduates sufficiently competent in both design and analysis and who will be able to function independently, as well as lead teams of skilled technicians to solve town planning problems. To this end, the programme is a blend of design, analysis, theory and practice.

SCOPE OF PROGRAMME

The programme will cover formal lectures, Seminars, individual and group assignments, field studies and field data collection and analysis. There will be a project dissertation to be examined through a Seminar and Oral Examination by a Panel of External and Internal Examiners.
