PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
INTRODUCTION
Contemporary world of technology is an eclectic operation which needs
professionals highly competent in composite knowledge, skills and work
habits. Education and training in the traditional disciplines of Agricultural
Technology education fashionably called technology education is not always
adequate to meet the challenges which normally confront technology educators
in Agricultural occupations. The demand for industrial technology education
Programme had been an obvious matter. Agricultural technology education
which is a phase of education deals with pedagogy, technology (its evolution,
utilization and significance) and industry (its management, endogenously/exogenous
materials, facilities, processes, products and problems resulting from
the technological and industrial nature of modern and tomorrow’s
society). Hence, the M. Tech Programme in Agricultural Technology Education
is composite in form integrated and intensive in scope.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAMME
The Federal Republic of Nigeria has, since the introduction of the current
National Policy on Education in 1977 and revised in 1981 and 1998 sufficiently
stressed the need for teaching and learning of technology education in
Nigerian 6-3-34 educational system. The national policy, which particularly
devotes Section 5 to technology education perceives the reality that technology
education is amongst other things the bedrock for agricultural, business,
industrial, economic land techno-scientific advancement of any nation
in the modern times. It is believed that postgraduate Programmes of study
and research in technology education shall lead Individual to acquire
functional (appropriate, practical and comprehensive) training and education
for the promotion of progressive Nigeria. Thus, the Individual shall be:
developed into sound and effective professional citizen; fully integrated
into the community; made self-reliant; and highly proficient to utilize
people and materials for accomplishing national goals.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The postgraduate Programme in Agricultural technology education shall
enable students acquire higher pertinent knowledge, skills and attitudes
in technological career, and the development of mental, physical and social
competencies as instrument for the Individual to live in and contribute
to the progress of a technical society. The department of technology education
shall endeavour to continuously identify technological education needs
of the society and provide strongly suitable courses and Programmes to
meet the identified needs. The department offers degrees of master of
technology (M.Tech) with major concentration in Agricultural Technology
Education.
The M.Tech. Programme in Agricultural Technology Education is specifically
designed to:-
1. Strengthen
students’ pedagogical competencies, research and development skills
and community service needs in modern technical problem-solving issues;
2. Keep the learners abreast with current knowledge, skills and attitudes
to cope with technology advancement in their chosen area of specialization;
3. Improve the students ability in the professional practice of technology
with technical, administrative or supervisory responsibilities;
4. Update career teachers of technology with contemporary theory and
practice of professional educational studies;
