Types of Postgraduate Programmes
 

Three main types of postgraduate programmes shall be offered in this University:-

a) Postgraduate Diploma

b) Masters Degree (M.Tech, M.Eng, M.Sc, M.A., MBA, MPA)

c) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

d) Doctor of Science (D.Sc.)

Admission Requirements

The following may qualify for admission into the specific postgraduate programmes as follows:-

Postgraduate Diploma

a. Graduates of FUTY or any other recognised University;

b. Holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least an upper credit pass in relevant disciplines;

c. HND holders with lower credits in relevant disciplines but with a minimum of five years relevant post-qualification experience;

d. Holders of other professional qualifications which may be acceptable to the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies and Senate of the University.

e. In special cases candidates may be admitted after passing such tests, examinations etc, as may be prescribed by a Department/School.

Master’s Degree

a. Holders of first degree of FUTY with first or second class honours;

b. Holders of equivalent qualifications from other recognised Universities;

c. A candidate with a degree lower than second class honours may be eligible if either:

i. he has good relevant Postgraduate Diploma with at least an upper credit pass; or

ii. he passes any prescribed qualifying examinations for admission

Doctor of Philosophy

i. Candidates who hold a Master’s degree of FUTY with GPA 3.75 (on a 5 point scale).
ii. Candidates with equivalent qualifications from other recognised Universities;

iii. All candidates with GPA between 3 and 3.75 (i.e. < 3.75)on a 5 point scale will be required to take 12 units of coursework and pass with GPA 3.75, and may be required by Department to sit for and pass a comprehensive qualifying examination, before defending his Ph.D proposal.
