HISTORY

The School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology is one of the schools of the University. It was established in 1989 and became fully functional in 1990. It now has seven departments that award Bachelor of Technology Degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension, Animal Science and Range Management, Crop production Horticulture, Fisheries, Food Science and Technology , Forestry and Wild life and Soil Science.

PHILOSOPHY

Students admitted into the school are provided with a broad –based training in Agriculture and Forestry that are more functional and practical in the environmental and social systems of Nigeria. The School is therefore firmly committed to the training of the students in production-oriented manner by placing more emphasis on courses related management and production techniques complimented with field and relevant Laboratory practical. The graduate trained in the School are thus expected to;-

(a) Take up employment anywhere in Nigeria in any aspect of agriculture and forestry and other related areas; and be
(b) Engaged in production, research and extension services that would provide relevant and appropriate solutions to the agricultural and rural development problems and generally improve upon agricultural productivity in the country.
(c) Profitably put their practical skills into operation by establishing and operating their own farming enterprises.

It is hoped that the above compliments may lead to the realisation of the technological aspect of the training in a technological institution.

FUTY GETS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

Professor B.H. Usman has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University0 of Technology, Yola (FUTY). Until his appointment, Professor B.H. Usman was the past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and Acting Vice Chancellor, FUTY.

He has a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Soil Science) with a second class honours, upper division degree, from the University of Maiduguri. M.Sc. in Soil Chemistry, University of Reading, England, U.K. and Ph.D in Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management from the University of London, Wye College, England, U.K.

He now becomes the 6th Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola.     More>>
