Functions
The
Unit started operation in May, 1987 under the name ‘Remedial Year Programme’
and later changed to “Remedial Science Programme’
The Senate later changed the name to Pre-Degree Science Programme
because of the misunderstanding of the name ‘Remedial’ by prospective
candidates.
The
Pre-degree Science Programme Unit was established to prepare students
from the catchment areas in the sciences preparatory to their entry
to the five year degree programmes of the University who for one reason
or the other could not gain admission to the University through JAMB
and also for those with one deficiency or the other in the sciences.
In
the 2000/2001 Academic session, Pre-degree Management Programme was
introduced by the University to prepare Management Students who would
eventually be absorbed into the school
of Management and Information
Technology. The subjects offered
are Economics, Commerce, Geography, Biology, Accounting in addition
to Mathematics and English.
