Message from the Vice Chancellor

I welcome
you to the Federal University of Technology, Yola. The University, founded
in 1980, has continued to grow as a center for teaching and research in
science, technology and related disciplines. It also enjoys the reputation
as one of the most peaceful and tranquil campuses in the country. These have
been made possible by the dedication to duty of its staff and the maturity
and discipline of its students.
The Federal University of Technology, Yola prides itself in providing a
calm University environment that is rich in experiences conducive to
meaningful academic pursuit. As a result, it has continued to attract a
large number of applicants who annually seek admission into its academic
programmes. You are, therefore, privileged to be selected to study in
this young, but potentially great University.
As you enrol to become a student of this University, I enjoin you to follow
the footsteps of your predecessors by ensuring that you excel in your
academic work and contribute to maintaining peace and harmony on campus. The
student’s handbook exists to acquaint you with the norms, rules and
regulations guiding academic and social life in the University. It will
assist you greatly in adjusting to and endeavour to make it a part of you at
all times.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of Federal University of Technology, Yola, are:
(a) To encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all
persons without distinction of race, reed, sex or political conviction,
the opportunity of acquiring higher education technology;
(b) To develop and offer academic and professional programmes leading to
the award of diploma, first degrees, postgraduate research and higher
degrees which emphasize planning, adaptive, technical, maintenance,
developmental and productive skills in the engineering, scientific,
agricultural, medical, and allied professional disciplines with the aim
of producing socially mature men and women with capability not only to
understand, use and adapt existing technology but also improve on it and
develop new ones;
(c) To act as agents and catalysts, through postgraduate training,
research and innovation for the effective and economic utilization,
exploitation and conservation of the country’s mature, economic and
human resources;
(d) To offer to the general population, as a form of public service, the
results of training and research and to foster the practical
applications of these results;
(e) To establish appropriate relationships with other national
institutions involved in training, research and development of
technologies;
(f) To provide and promote sound basic scientific training as a
foundation for the development of technology and applied sciences,
taking into account indigenous culture and the need to enhance national
entity;
(g) To undertake any other activities appropriate for a University of
Technology of the highest possible standard.
