MEET THE VICE CHANCELLOR
Professor Abdullahi
Yusufu, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology,
Yola is a Professor of Veterinary Reproduction who has
distinguished himself in his field with numerous honours, local and
international.
Born on September 2,
1960 at Fufore, Adamawa State, he started his primary
education at Mubi 1 Primary School, Mubi between 1967 to 1973, attended
Comprehensive Secondary School, Mubi, 1973 to 1978; School of Basic Studies,
Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1978 to 1979.
In 1979 he enrolled at
the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and graduated in 1984 with Doctor of
Veterinary Medicine (DVM). His quest for
additional educational qualifications fuelled by a burning thirst for
knowledge made him to proceed to the same University from 1986 to 1988 for
his Master of Science (Theriogenology) Degree.
Being an outstanding
personality in his chosen career, Professor Ribadu won Commonwealth
Scholarship award to study for a Ph.D Degree at the University of Liverpool,
U.K. between 1990 – 1993. In 1997, he proceeded to Rakuno Gakuen
University, Ebetsu, Hokkaido, Japan for his Post – Doctoral study
sponsored by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Tokyo, Japan.
The seasoned Professor
started his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of
Veterinary Surgery and Reproduction, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria
between 1985-1988. He rose from the post of Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer
II between 1989-1990; Ph.D research student, Commonwealth Scholarship, U.K.
between 1990-1993; Lecturer I between 1993-1996 and was Senior Lecturer
between 1996-1999, Associate Professor 1999 - 2002. He was appointed Professor of Veterinary
Reproduction in 2002.
Professor Abdullahi
Ribadu held various academic and administrative appointments within the
University of Maiduguri, Borno State some which are; Member Junior staff
(Establishment) Committee, University of Maiduguri and Co-ordinator,
Ambulatory Services, University of Maiduguri Veterinary Teaching Hospital
1989-1990; Curator, Reproduction Laboratories, Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine, University of Maiduguri between 1994-1996; Secretary, Final Year
Project Supervision Committee 1995; Co-ordinator, Veterinary Clinics and
Farm Practice, UMVTH (1995-1996); Member, Remedial Year Science (RSP) Board,
University of Maiduguri, 1995-1997; Member, Standing Committee on National
Universities Commission’s (NUC) Accreditation Monitoring Committee,
University of Maiduguri 1996; Hall Master, Ado Bayero Hall 1999; He was
Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Sahel Journal of Veterinary Sciences 2000; Member
Representing Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on University Biotechnology
Committee, 2001; Head of Department and Member, University of Maiduguri
Senate, 2000; Member, Representing Senate on University of Maiduguri Search
Team for the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor and Chairman, Information
and Communication Technology committee, University of Maiduguri, 2003.
Apart from University
appointments, Professor Ribadu also served at the National and International
levels. He was Treasurer, Veterinary Postgraduate Society, University of
Liverpool between 1991-1993; Chairman, Asset Sharing committee, Borno/Yobe
State Branches of NVMA 1995-1996; Resource Person (Livestock Extension
Service) Adamawa, Borno and Taraba States Agricultural Development programme
(1995/96; 2002).
A Researcher of repute
and a distinguished academician, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu has many research
works to his credit both at the local and international levels. He
served as External Examiner to many Universities, has many publications to
his credit and has contributed in various journals. He is a member of
many professional bodies some of which are; Nigerian Veterinary Medical
Association, Society to the study of Reproduction, Cambridge, U.K.; Society for the study of Animal
Breeding, England; Japanese Society of Animal Reproduction, Tokyo, Japan.
Member Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM).
Professor Abdullahi
Yusufu Ribadu has attended many seminars and conferences within and outside
the country. The Vice Chancellor is happily married with 2 children.
