HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY

The plan to establish the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering started in 1988 with the employment of one graduate assistant preparatory to the actual take off of the programme. In October 1990, the first sets of students were admitted into the 100 level. The department graduated a total number of 118 students since inception.

PROGRAMME PHILOSOPHY, MISSION AND VISION FOR ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
There is no doubt that engineering is the key to technological break through for any nation whether copied, adapted or prime development. Therefore, the mission of Electrical and Electronics Engineering department in the new millennium would remain the training of persons in the various fields of Electrical and Electronics engineering, who will acquire scientific and professional skills and in turn be professionally competent and contribute to the development of the nation’s economy. The skills of our engineers would make them self reliant, job creators and provide services rather than depend on government for employment.
Our vision as a department is contained in the motto of the Federal University of Technology, which is: Technology for Development; it is our vision to carry through the engineering approach to understanding, problem solving and making the Nigerian environment a better and healthier place to live in.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF THE B.ENG (ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING) PROGRAMME
The general aims and objectives of the bachelor of engineering in electrical and electronics programme are to produce graduates in electrical and electronic engineering with a sound academic background coupled with sufficient practical experience. Such graduates are expected to be resourceful, creative and able to perform the following functions:

i. To solve practical problems in electrical and electronics engineering by analysis and experimentation.

ii. To design, assemble, install commission and operate electrical/electronics equipment.

iii. To prepare quantities and specifications related to electrical/electronics works.

iv. To understand and use the basic principles of management applied to engineering industries in general.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(i) UME minimum of five (5) credits, three of which must be in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(ii) Direct Entry: Minimum of Upper Credit, in addition to UME requirement.

DEGREE AWARDED: B. Eng. (Electrical/Electronics).

DURATION OF STUDY
The program is for a minimum period of ten semesters and a maximum of fourteen semesters. Each level of the programme runs across two semesters. In the first two semesters (100 level), the students study the basic sciences.

Teaching and Research Facilities Available in the Department

The Department has one equipment lab, central workshop and computer café. All electrical lab works are performed in the main Electrical/Electronics Engineering lab, while the central workshops and the café are shared by all the Departments of the School of Engineering for workshop practices and computer skill acquisition respectively.

FUTY GETS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

Professor B.H. Usman has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University0 of Technology, Yola (FUTY). Until his appointment, Professor B.H. Usman was the past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and Acting Vice Chancellor, FUTY.

He has a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Soil Science) with a second class honours, upper division degree, from the University of Maiduguri. M.Sc. in Soil Chemistry, University of Reading, England, U.K. and Ph.D in Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management from the University of London, Wye College, England, U.K.

He now becomes the 6th Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola.     More>>
