HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY
The Department
of Management Technology took off in October, 2000 with four (4) undergraduate
programmes:
(i) B.
Tech. Accountancy
(ii) B. Tech. Banking & Finance
(iii) B. Tech. Economics
The admissions
were restricted to 100 and 200 levels.
PHILOSOPHY
Management
is the process of utilising the resources of an organisation to accomplish
designated objectives. It is also the process of planning, organising
staffing leading and controlling the work of organisation members. Thus,
the role of management cannot be over emphasized in national development.
Most often than not the main impediments to technological progress are
organisational bottlenecks rather than technical difficulties. For instance,
in Nigeria, the main obstacles to solution of national problems are
not always material problems but institutional and management. This
emphasises the distinctive contribution that effective management can
make to any technical fix. In fact, we cannot talk of technological
development in this country without adequate consideration for effective
management of technological changes for production.
Thus, managerial
and technological factors of production must be effectively combined
together. The managerial function cannot be ignored if the technology
is to achieve its full effect, since virtually all modern technologies
are produced, distributed, maintained and even invented in organisations.
Technology development and delivery are as much organisational achievement
as they are technical ones.
Therefore,
the Department of Management Technology offers four (4) programmes.
(Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Economics and Management) which offer
courses that are inter-disciplinary with emphasis on quantitative techniques
to justify the award of B.Tech in the various programmes. The courses
offered will assist the students to develop necessary analytical skills,
competence and managerial expertise required to appreciate the value
and creation of wealth in Nigeria.
The main
objective is to train technocrat managers who can manage effectively
technologically-oriented organisations in both public and private sectors
of the economy with adequate competence in analytical techniques, accounting
procedures, econometric models and management techniques.
