The Department of Civil Engineering was established in October, 1990, with the initial objective to train first degree students to be qualified in various fields of Civil Engineering who would serve in public and private sectors of our economy. This was done to meet the need for qualified specialists in both the construction industry and in institutions of higher learning. The department started with a population of one staff and seven students. Presently, the department has seven academic and five non-academic staff and a total of 206 students in population. Further more, the admission number has been fixed between 40 and 50 annually based on the staff strength and availability of facilities. It is also the outmost desire of the department to produce self reliant engineers to help cut down on job scarcity. The vision of the department is to create the best well equipped Civil Engineering set-up in the country so as to attract even the foreign based professionals to help train quality and prosperous engineers. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
O’ level requirement includes Credit
in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other
Science subject. Direct entry: A Credit in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics at the A Level and IJMB, Upper Credit in OND Chemical Engineering is also acceptable in addition to the O’ level requirement. DEGREE AWARDED The degree awarded after graduation is Bachelor of Civil Engineering (B.Eng.) Civil Engineering.
DURATION OF THE STUDY
The duration of the study is as follows: Five
(5) years for
Teaching and Research Facilities Available in the Department The following are the facilities available for teaching/research purposes: 1. Soil mechanics/Geotechnical laboratory where all practicals are being carried out. 2. Drawing studio – shared with other departments, where drawing/design courses are being carried out.
