Functions

The Centre for Distance Education of the University was established during the 2001/2002 academic session.  It is aimed at providing access to Science and Technology and Liberal education for all categories of Nigerians especially those living in the North Eastern region.  Thus, the objectives of the Centre is to promote life-long learning opportunities for Nigerians at their various places of work, homes etc as opposed to the conventional learning practices.

The Centre offers courses leading to the award of Bachelors and Postgraduate Degrees, Diploma and Certificates in the various disciplines of learning as contained in the university’s curriculum for conventional studies.  A number of new courses in Environmental and Management Sciences and Agriculture will be introduced in the next academic session.  The Centre utilizes the services of staff in the various academic departments of the University on part-time basis for effective delivery of knowledge and skills.  However, the centre a coordinator Dr. Mala Galtima, who was appointed in May 2002.
