FUTY GETS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

Professor B.H. Usman has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University0 of Technology, Yola (FUTY). Until his appointment, Professor B.H. Usman was the past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and Acting Vice Chancellor, FUTY.

He has a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Soil Science) with a second class honours, upper division degree, from the University of Maiduguri. M.Sc. in Soil Chemistry, University of Reading, England, U.K. and Ph.D in Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management from the University of London, Wye College, England, U.K.

He now becomes the 6th Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola.     More>>

BIOTECH RESEARCH CENTRE

ABOUT THE CENTRE

The Chevron Biotechnology Centre was established using a grant to the University by Chevron Nigeria Plc.  The money was used to build the magnificent structure housing the Centre and procure equipment.  The Centre was commissioned by The. President Federal Republic of Nigeria in February 2001.

The structure housing the Centre is on two floors occupying a total space of about 1.350m2. The Centre is equipped with a wide range of up-to-date equipment that can handle research and training in all areas of molecular biology, genetic engineering, cell and tissue culture, bioreactor technology, drug analysis and development, environmental pollution control and enzyme technology.  There are nine different laboratories, offices, preparation and storage spaces and a conference room.

At the moment the Centre is headed by a Coordinator and active research is going on.

Department of Biotechnology

The Centre is currently housing the Department of biotechnology which was established in 2007 under the School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS).

The Department runs a BTech. Programme in Biotechnology and has so far admitted two sets of undergraduate students (2007/2008 and 2008/2009) The Coordinator of the centre is also doubling as the Head of the Department of Biotechnology. The Department shares the same facilities and Staff with the Centre. 

At the moment the Centre is headed by a Coordinator and active research is going on.
